Central Program Council

The Central Program Council is the primary source for student programming at the University of Tennessee. As a leader in campus programming, we seek to provide dynamic and purposeful co-curricular programs that promote the educational, cultural, recreational, and personal development of all students. CPC is an important part of campus life and the Knoxville community, drawing thousands of people to our numerous events throughout the year. From politics to ballet, blockbuster films to fine art, CPC brings interesting pundits and performers from around the globe. Also, CPC is responsible for carrying on some of UT's oldest traditions, such as All-Sing and Homecoming.

CPC Present's MTV's Rock the Vote

It’s time for the UT campus to rock…the vote that is. On the week of March 10-12 , MTV’s Rock the Vote is coming to UT.

Since 1990, MTV’s Rock the Vote program has been encouraging young voters to participate in the political process and exercise their right to vote. The Central Program Council, the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy, CPC Issues Committee, CPC Women’s Coordinating Council, CPC Film Committee, Honors Council, Student Senate, Student Government Association, Political Science Department, College Republicans and College Democrats are working together to sponsor “Rock the Vote” Week.

On Tuesday, students will have to chance to voice their opinions about the political process and the upcoming election during a Speak OUT on the Pedestrian Walkway from 11:00-1:30. In the afternoon, Dr. Anthony Nownes will lead a session on “So, What is a Lobbyist Anyway?” in the I-House Great Room at 3:30. That night, the College Republicans will show the film Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater in the UC Room 221.

The week will conclude on Wednesday with the MTV Rock the Vote program “The Impact and Importance of the Youth Vote” at the UC Auditorium at 5:00. The program will go in-depth into the make-up of democracy and highlight the importance of the college aged vote. This one-hour, non-partisan program is hosted by MTV “Real World” and “Road Rules” stars. Throughout the week, there will be voter registration tables on the Pedestrian Walkway, the UC Plaza and in Presidential Courtyard.

For more information on any of the events during “Rock the Vote” week, please contact Ashley Moyer at amoyer@utk.edu, Gavin Luter at dluter@utk.edu or Courtney Warden at cwarden@utk.edu.
